OTHER HEALTH & WELLNESS PROGRAMS AT THE SPRINGFIELD FAMILY YMCA INCLUDE:
At the Springfield Family YMCA, the safety and well-being of our members, staff, volunteers and the broader Clark county community have always been and will always be a top priority.
We have been diligently monitoring all national and local updates surrounding the COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation. In order to best ensure the health of our entire Y community, we are following Governor DeWine’s order to close our Springfield Family YMCA to the public effective March 17th through at least April 6th. Our childcare program at Town & Country will remain open until further notice.
We understand that closing our facility will affect many of our members and we must comply with the Governor DeWine’s order. At this time because we do not know how long this will last we are trying to figure out our course of action as we go. As a not for profit, cause driven organization we will need your help to weather this storm. We need your financial support “now more than ever” to make sure the Y will be in Springfield another 165 years. We are planning on doing our backdrafts in March at this time. You may ask “what is the Y doing during the closure?” Over this time the Y will do some of the normal tasks that we do during our summer shutdown, so we do not anticipate our annual 2 week closure in August.
We will also be accessing other critical community needs that the YMCA can assist in. One of those needs is childcare for our critical service providers like hospitals, first responders and nursing homes. This way we can have children in safe areas with properly trained and structured programs. We are currently in conversations with multiple agencies. We are also currently looking into programs that we can offer off site or other virtual digital offerings. During this closure, you can expect regular updates from us via email, our website and our social media channels: Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.
If you chose to continue your draft for March we will use those dollars for the services above and to help us weather these first few weeks. If you choose you may also freeze your membership to avoid the draft until the Y opens again. You will also be able to request a credit towards your account if you feel that you cannot support the draft as a donation. Just let us know your wishes via email.
We understand this is a very concerning situation. The Springfield Family YMCA has been a pillar of the Clark county community for more than 165 years, throughout both good and challenging times. The decision to close our YMCA was made to best ensure the safety of everyone in our community.
During this closure, you can expect regular updates from us via email or check our website and our social media channels: Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.
We are asking everyone to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and take their own measures to protect themselves, including not putting themselves in situations with large crowds or where they come in close contact with others, staying home if they do not feel well, frequently washing their hands with soap and water and covering their coughs and sneezes.
We will continue to work with the health department and local physicians to determine what other actions, if any, would be prudent on our part and when it will be safe to reopen our facilities.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this evolving and challenging situation. We look forward to returning to business as usual as soon as possible.
